1. Welcome.
Magnetic World is a music festival for people who love music. It's also a place where strangers stand shoulder to shoulder for two days. That works when we look out for each other. This code is how we say what "looking out for each other" actually means on the hill.
2. What we expect.
- Respect · attendees, performers, vendors, security, medics, accessibility staff, volunteers and Garrison Grounds neighbours.
- Consent · for contact, photos, and personal space. If someone says no, that's the answer.
- Care · for the site, the gear, the gardens, the grounds, and each other.
- Trust security and gate staff · they're working a safety plan. Follow gate, stage and exit instructions.
- Drink water. Find shade. Pace yourself. Two days is a long time on a hill in late September.
3. What we won't tolerate.
Any of the following is grounds for ejection without refund and, where applicable, referral to law enforcement:
- Harassment, discrimination, or abusive behaviour based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, body type, immigration status, language, or any other protected ground under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act or the Canadian Human Rights Act.
- Violence, threats of violence, or intimidating behaviour.
- Unwanted touching, stalking, or sexual harassment in any form.
- Selling or distributing controlled substances.
- Weapons of any kind. No exceptions.
- Filming or photographing artists, attendees, or backstage operations without permission, where the artist or person has not consented.
- Persistent disruption of performances, gates, or accessibility infrastructure.
- Bringing in prohibited items after being asked to leave them at the gate.
4. How to report.
You don't have to wait for it to "get worse." If something feels off, tell us. You have three channels:
- Any staff member. Look for high-vis vests, info booths, security, or anyone wearing the accessibility-ambassador armband.
- Emailoperations@magneticworldmf.com · for anything that needs to be on the record before or after the festival.
Reports are confidential. We do not share reporter identities with the person being reported about, except where required by law.
Retaliation isn't tolerated. If you report a concern in good faith and someone retaliates · by staff, security, an artist, a vendor, another attendee · that is itself a violation of this code.
5. What happens next.
- On-site response: initial response within 24 hours during the festival weekend. Urgent safety matters: immediate.
- Post-festival follow-up: within 5 business days for reports received during or after the event.
- Possible outcomes, depending on the situation: warning · removal from the festival (no refund) · ban from future Magnetic World events · referral to Halifax Regional Police if a crime may have been committed.
- Documentation: every report is logged. Repeat patterns trigger more serious responses.
6. Land acknowledgment.
Magnetic World gathers in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq People. We commit to programming, partnerships, and operations that learn from · not erase · the people who have stewarded this coast for thousands of years.
7. Accessibility.
If anything in this code is hard to use · the language, the report channels, the on-site processes · tell us through the Accessibility page. We fix the page and the process.
